While working with a multimedia organisation, I found the efficacy of Compact Disc Read-only memory (CD-ROM). It struck to me thet conversion of book into compact discs (CDs) can be a fruitful business. Since then, there was no looking back. Our copmpany launched computer-based tutorials (also known as interactive software) that helped the employees, working in various corporations, to grasp the knowledge of various software on their own.

Later, we initiated CDs that could provide knowledge on various subjects to students of preschool to Class X. We have incorporated music rhymes that have made learning easy and fun. We have also stepped into encyclopedia and animation Cds. Today, our brand has presence in leading retail bookstores like Crossword, Landmark etc. Institutes like Kidzee, Podar Group, Goenka Group, Kanakia etc also use our CDs in their curriculum.

The market potential of this business.

Our business offers enormous potential, as multimedia industry is imbibing everything. For instance, e-learning is picking up pace and 90 per cent schools impart teaching via interactive white boards; the concept of smart class also comes from interactive softwares. The best thing about our CD-ROMs is that they can be played in a PC as well as DVD player. This industry has wide penetration all over india, be it Information Technology, pharmacy or banking field.

A word on franchising

Franchising is the best option to enhance brand's visibility. In our case, we had to showcase our entire rang of catalogues thet was not feasible in a single retail counter. We opted for franchising, as it imparts full knowledge about our concept to our consumers.

Where all are we present across India and what are our expansion plans?

We have around 14 franchise outlets and two company owned outlets. We are present in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Pune, Bengaluru, Chandigarh etc. We have around seven franchise outlets in the pipeline and are considering expansion in tier- II cities.

What are our requisites in terms of skills and investment from a franchisee?

A franchisee should be graduated and possess basic knowledge about computers. A franchisee from education or IT background is preferred.

The best things about our company is that we don't take franchise fee. The only expenditure involved is Rs 5-10 lakh that includes materials and the rental fee. There is no hidden cost and break-even. If the material is not sold within one year, there is 100 per cent replacement guarantee.
